Easy DIY Fall Leaves Decor

I absolutely love fall, it’s my favorite season! I love the colors of the leaves, the crisp air, cute sweaters and boots, and pumpkin spice chai lattes! So now that the weather is starting to get cooler, I’m excited to update some of our decor and bring a little bit of fall into our home.

Easy fall decor: You just need leaves, glue, and a vase!

Love those colors!

Remember the tissue paper cherry blossoms I put together to decorate for spring? Well I liked the look of the branches in a beer bottle so much that I decided I would just update the idea to be a little more “fall”. 🙂

I re-used the same beer bottle and had a few sticks left over, so the project cost me less than $5 and it was super easy to do!

Here’s what you need:

  • an empty beer bottle, or any vase
  • gold paint
  • branches
  • flowers, leaves, berries, or any other decorations
  • hot glue
  • scissors or wire cutters

I was in Michael’s the other day and noticed that their little fake flower bushes were on a HUGE sale, so I grabbed some pretty leaves and little berries for this project.

I’m a “less is more” kind of person, so even though the leaves and berries were very pretty all by themselves, they were too “full” for my taste.

So I cut apart the bushes with my wire cutters and I was left with a pile of leaves and a pile of berries. (Use a wire cutter if your bushes are held together with wire, otherwise you’ll dull your scissors.)

Then I used my hot glue gun to attach the leaves and berries to the branches. I was able to space out the leaves a bit, which made me happy.

You’ll get a more natural look if you glue the leaves onto the end of a small branch or at the knots on the main branch.

Once you have your branches filled out, you just need somewhere to put them. I used the same beer bottle, but the bright blue color wasn’t quite working with the fall leaves. So while I had the gold spray paint out to paint the frame on my wedding photo image transfer board, I gave the bottle a quick coat too.

Just stick your branches in your bottle, and voila! Gorgeous fall decor! (My branches were actually a bit too heavy for the bottle and it kept wanting to tip over, so I just put some gravel inside the bottle to weight it down a bit.)

Much for “fall” than before, right?!

I love the less is more! We’re in a small house, and the surfaces to put stuff on are not very deep. Your arrangement would work perfectly since it’s not wide, and yet has a lot of height to it.

If you don’t mind, I’d like to link to your post in a frugal fall decorating post I’m putting up on my blog tomorrow. I’ve been gathering pictures of frugal fall decorating finds at places like Target. Your reference to Michael’s fits right in!

Love the fall decorations! I do a lot of decorating for Christmas, not as much for other holidays. However, I did just hang a fall wreath on my front door 🙂

Love it love it love it! Fall through Christmas is my decorating season, because I love fall and Christmas stuff so much. I do fall in September, Halloween in October, back to the fall stuff plus a few Thanksgiving specific items, and then it’s Crazy Christmas Central after Thanksgiving through Epiphany. ^_^

I’ve had too much else to do lately to get too gung-ho about the decorating this year, but this project would be perfect!

    Yayayayayay fall. ^_^

I don’t usually decorate, but those cherry blossoms were just looking a bit out of place since all the colors outside were changing. So I switched them up just to make it fit in, but now I have sort of caught the bug and have all these other ideas for decorating! JM was just saying last night that we’re going to run out of room for “decor” if I decorate anything else. I think he just underestimates how creative I can get!

Do you suppose it’s the blogging that makes us want to decorate? In the past I decorated very little, you would have to look to see it. Now, after seeing every one else’s decoration, I’m getting pretty inspired! 🙂

Yeah, you might be right. Or maybe just being on Pinterest so much, which is both a cause and effect of blogging 🙂
