I LOVE boots, but storing them is a huge nightmare! They’re too tall to fit into shoe cubbies, and the tops always flop over and lay on the ground. I hate the creases it leaves in my boots, and I always worry they will be permanently misshapen. But there is a super simple solution to this issue: pool noodles!
Brilliant!
How To Store Boots So They Don’t Flop Over
You need:
- a pool noodle
- scissors or a bread knife
I have some pairs of boots that mostly stand up on their own, but most of them end up flopping over like this.
That’s gotta be bad for them, right? Not only is there a fold in the upper part, but the ankle is all dented in and creased. 🙁
To fix this, all you need is a pool noodle and a pair of scissors! Cut your pool noodle into quarters by sawing back and forth a bit with your scissors. (Or you can use a serrated bread knife.)
Stick one quarter of the pool noodle into each boot and shove it all the way down so it hits the sole. And voila, now they stand up!
Not only does the top stand up, but the ankle is filled out so it isn’t permanently indented! You can stand up two pairs of boots with one pool noodle, so grab a few from the dollar store and start saving your boots from eternal floppiness!
What else can you use a pool noodle for, besides floating around in a pool? I’ve seen people bend it in a circle and use it as a wreath form. And of course, you can always use a pool noodle as a water gun: just fill the hollow center with water, point one end at a friend, and blow the water out at them from the other end!

Ha! I just stack my flip flops on top of each other in a giant pile cuz they’re so flat! Probably not what you’re looking for, huh? 🙂

I just use a shoe bag that hangs on the back of my walk in closet door. Mine holds 12 pairs of shoes but I can get two pairs of most flip flops in one space. I just put the soles together in opposite directions.
