Organize wall space with a pegboard
Pegboards make good use of open wall space, so they are great for adding extra storage when you don't have room for a large piece of furniture. You can add shelves, hooks, bins, and more to completely customize the board for your storage needs!
Pick a few types of storage containers and use those for everything
Besides looking absolutely gorgeous, using 2-3 consistent types of storage containers also makes it easier to find what you're looking for. Because who really wants to search through a giant assortment of random jars, tins, boxes, baskets, and containers to find the one thing they need?!
Group everything by category, and label it!
Group like with like, put it all in a container, and then stick a label on it! You don't need a fancy label maker (a marker and a sticky note work just fine), but every container should have a label so you know what's inside without having to open it.
Use a rolling cart to add storage next to a small desk
If you have a small desk, you might want some extra storage solutions. Place a 3-tier rolling metal cart next to your desk to add extra storage, or check out the article for some other great small desk storage ideas!
Keep your drawers organized with acrylic bins or metal organizers
Add a pull out shelf to make better use of your shelves
Having shelves under your desk makes great use of the otherwise wasted space, but it can be a little hard to access the stuff on those shelves. Add drawer slides and make the shelves pull out for easy access!
...and underneath your desk!
It can be a hassle to reach down under your desk to plug in your electronics; solve that problem by mounting a power strip under your desk! Plus it keeps the cords up off the floor and out of the way.
Keep your daily tasks and activities organized with a giant whiteboard
A whiteboard is perfect for taking notes, or as a reusable calendar, but you're not limited to just that! Plus, you can make your own giant whiteboard for less than $30!
Use the furniture you have (or can find for cheap!)
When it comes to storage solutions, you don't need fancy, brand new, and expensive. Sometimes you're better off reconfiguring an old piece of furniture you already have (or can find for cheap or free) to suit your needs: a quick coat of paint and some storage bins and you're ready to go!
If you can't find the right furniture, build something yourself!
Sometimes you won't be able to find the perfect pre-built piece, but you can always make something customized for your needs! You can make a built-in computer desk with just a few pieces of wood and some paint.
Make a drop zone for incoming mail or paper
Stop the paper clutter before it starts by setting up a drop zone for incoming paper and mail. That way even if you don't get around to dealing with the mail today, at least it won't be cluttering up your space!
Make your own desk organizer to keep your desktop clutter-free
Horizontal surfaces tend to collect clutter. Keep your important items close at hand and neatly organized with a simple desk organizer made from a single piece of wood!
Color code your paperwork
Labels on your file folders are great, but looking through an entire drawer of files for the one you're looking for can still be a hassle. Color code your files for a second layer of organization and you'll be able to find what you need in no time!
Make sure your chair has good lumbar support
If you don't have a cute office chair with lumbar support, make sure you put a pillow behind you when you sit, cuz lumbar support is important! This article shows you how to make a quick and easy pillow cover to perfectly match your decor.
Make your own decorated cork board
It's always good to have a place to put random notes, receipts, messages, etc. Why not have it be pretty at the same time!
Free up desk space by hanging a pendant light above your workstation
Good light is important when you're working, but if you don't have a lot of desk space, you probably don't want to use up that space with a desk lamp. Install a hanging pendant light from the ceiling instead!
Give laptops and tablets a home
Laptops and tablets are supposed to be portable, but that doesn't mean they should be left wherever you last used them! Use a metal desk shelf to give your portable tech devices a "home" so that you always know where they are, and they aren't cluttering up your horizontal surfaces.
Get your cords organized
When your cords aren't in use, keep them from getting tangled with a simple cardboard organizer!
Hide unsightly areas with curtains
It's ok if you have that one area that just accumulates stuff (like under a desk or under shelves); just hide it with a pretty curtain! That way you can still have the storage space, but it's no longer visually cluttered.
And finally, remember that even the best organization ideas only work if you declutter first!
Organization systems can organize your clutter, but they can't get rid of it for you; you have to do that part yourself! Your best bet is to focus on decluttering and getting rid of stuff FIRST, then organizing what's left.
