Bleach is a great laundry tool for whitening your whites, but you have to be careful with it because it’s incredibly powerful! If you’re careful with it you can do awesome things, like this bleached owl t-shirt. But I’ve also accidentally burned holes through clothes before, or splashed bleach onto the jeans I was wearing while trying to whiten a load of whites.
The gorgeous, lightweight, white curtains the previous owners of our house had left us were dingy and stained; they needed to be cleaned but I was worried about how to do it without ruining them. Luckily, Clorox makes a bleach that is powerful enough to whiten stains, but safe to use on delicate fabrics, and they asked me to try it out!
I used Clorox MyUltimateCare Bleach on these delicate curtains in the guest room, and the lacy curtains in our bedroom, and they came out of the wash perfectly white, totally intact, and smelling great!
How To Bleach Delicate Fabrics Safely
To bleach my delicate fabrics without ruining them, I used Clorox MyUltimateCare Bleach, which is exclusively available at Target! Check out what these curtains looked like before I cleaned them.
Look at those yellow stains near the bottom! It looks like the radiator must have leaked on them somehow… And besides the obvious yellow stains, the whole curtain was dingy, yellow, and smelled musty. Luckily, it only took one load of laundry to whiten them and make them smell fresh and clean again!
I just started the washer up like normal, added detergent like normal, added the curtains like normal, and then right before I closed the lid I poured in a capful of Clorox MyUltimateCare Bleach!
The bleach is gentle enough that you can pour it directly onto your clothes without having to worry about the bleach eating holes in the fabric. And it’s nice and thick, so that even when I had JM pour it from way high up so that I could get a good photo (ah the life of a blogger!) it didn’t splash at all, so the clothes we were wearing were safe! Once the washer cycle finished, I put the curtains in the dryer on a gentle cycle. And when they came out of the dryer they were bright white and clean!
Do you have some delicate whites that could use a good cleaning? You can get Clorox MyUltimateCare Bleach from Target, and Target is offering 10% off the product through their Cartwheel mobile app!

Disclosure: I received compensation from IZEA and Clorox in exchange for my honest discussion of their product. But this bleach is really amazing and it did a GREAT job on our curtains! The curtains in my living room are made of some incredibly delicate white fabric and I am so afraid to bleach them myself. I will try your suggestion here but first on something else just to know that this won’t ruin my curtains. Thank you a lot for sharing!
