Lemon Sugar Body Scrub

This is part of the relaxing home spa kit I made for my mom for Mother’s Day this year. Go check out the rest of the kit!

This was actually my favorite piece of the whole home spa kit! Every time the weather is even the slightest bit dry my mom and I get what we affectionately call “velcro heels”. You probably know what I mean…when your heels get dry and cracked and sometimes when you’re walking around on carpet you “stick” to the rug like velcro… I’m sure we’re not the only people this happens to, right?!

Anyway, when I saw this recipe for lemon sugar body scrub from Amy at The Idea Room I knew I had to try it. And it’s the perfect solution to velcro heels, yay!

Lemon sugar body scrub recipe

One very cool thing about this recipe is that you can make it in any “flavor” you want, just switch out the essential oil below. I chose lemon because lemon reminds me of how nana’s garden soap used to smell; it’s clean and fresh and “garden-y” and I love it!

Also, it makes a great gift because it’s not really perishable. Just stick it in a pretty jar and give it as a Mother’s Day gift, bring some to a girl’s night party, or whatever! And it’s easy to double or even triple the recipe. Just remember that 1 Cup = 16 Tablespoons.

To make your own you need:

  • 1 C white granulated sugar
  • 3-4 T almond oil (or any carrier oil will work here…olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil…)
  • 5 drops of Young Living Lemon essential oil (learn more about essential oils here)

The directions are super simple as well. Put the sugar in a bowl and mix in the almond oil. Make sure to stir it up really well; you’ll get clumps of sugar at first, but as you keep stirring they will break up and the oil will mix in. You want it soft, but not super greasy. It will look like the picture below. Once it is well mixed add a few drops of your essential oil and stir that in as well. That’s it!

Sugar scrub consistency

The amounts above are what I used for my sugar body scrub, but you can vary them however you want. You can add more oil if it isn’t oily enough, or less if it’s feeling too greasy. You can also change the amount of essential oil depending on the scent. Remember what I said about scenting the bath fizzies? Lavender is a very light scent in comparison to lemon, so you might want to use more essential oil if you make a lavender scrub.

Do you ever get velcro heels? What do you use as a remedy? Do you have any other awesome body scrub recipes?

I used Young Living’s lemon essential oil, which is a super versatile oil! It’s good for smoothing calluses, removing grease, gum, or sticky residue, plus it smells great, so it makes a great air freshener!
