JM came home from work the other day complaining about how he doesn’t have any magnets for his file cabinet at work. I swear I’m a good listener, but all I heard was “fun magnet craft project”!!!!
It is so easy to make your own magnets, so I dragged JM to Michael’s to pick out something fun, and here’s what we ended up with! Check out these DIY Magnets!
Not only is it simple to make your own magnets, but you have a TON of different options for customizing them! I’ve seen people make DIY magnets using buttons, vase filler marbles, or clear flat marbles with pretty paper or photos behind them; the options are endless!
All you need is a magnet, some glue (hot glue, white glue, super glue, any kind will work!), and something fun to attach to the magnet.
And it’s a great craft to have your kids help you with! Just make sure you use white glue instead of hot glue if your kids help so that they don’t burn themselves!
JM chose some flat glass hexagon tiles that we found in the floral section (with other glass vase fillers and marbles) for his magnets. Look how pretty these are!
Just stick some glue on your magnet, press it onto your tile (or whatever), and let it dry!
And now you have fun magnets!
You can personalize your magnets even more by using clear glass tiles or flat marbles. Take a piece of paper or a photo, cut it to the size of your glass, and glue it onto the back of the glass with white glue or Mod Podge. Once the glue is dry, glue the glass onto the magnet, and you have a perfectly customized magnet!
My brother’s class made photo magnets one year as a class project for Mother’s Day, and the magnet is still up on my parents’ fridge! Look how adorable he was 15 years ago!
What are the coolest magnets you’ve ever seen? I saw a little bendy paper clip guy and a paper clip dog with magnets for their feet. Cute!

So cute! I used to make magnets all the time but now only a small part of our fridge is magnetic so they are useless. Once day I will get around to making a magnetic board I guess.

I laughed so hard when reading your post how you were listening and heard fun magnetic craft project. They turned out great! I must confess, I have never made magnets because I usually find some really cute one…like my hand painted ones from Cozumel.

I’m confused. You say to be sure to use white glue, NOT hot glue. But, your pics. show hot glue. Which do you use, & why is 1 better than the other? Thanks!

Any type of glue will work, I just suggest using white glue if your kids help you because hot glue can burn them. 🙂

I used to love making my own magnets!! 🙂 I used to glue magnets onto cute wooden cutouts of sea life for the fridge. 🙂 Great project.

I just moved my filing cabinet so that I can utilize both sides of it for magnets… Now to find some cute tiles.
