Simple Spiral Paper Flowers

This was originally posted on Reasons To Skip The Housework, but just in case you missed it there, I’m reposting the tutorial here!

I love decorating with flowers, but real flowers (although they smell nice!) don’t last a long time once you cut them and bring them indoors. Luckily, paper flowers last forever, and they’re super easy to make! Today I’m going to show you how to make simple spiral paper flowers!

Make adorable spiral paper flowers in less than ten minutes! Perfect for table decorations!

Simple Spiral Paper Flowers

These paper flowers only take a few minutes to make, and they turn out so cute!

Here’s what you need to make your own:

  • colored card stock paper
  • scissors
  • hot glue
  • floral wire

Start by drawing a spiral on a piece of paper. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect; it’s just a guideline to help you cut! If you want a paper flower with a flat top, draw a regular spiral like the one on the right below; if you want a little height variation in the “petals”, draw a wavy spiral like the one on the left below.

Cut your spirals out along the lines you drew. Again, don’t worry if it’s not perfect; a little variation will add character to your finished flowers!

Roll up the paper spiral, starting at the outside of the spiral. Keep the paper roll tight as you go.

Keep rolling until you get to the circle at the center of the spiral. At this point, loosen your grip slightly and let the roll expand itself a bit so that the flower is a little fuller.

Add a dot of hot glue onto the circle in the center of the spiral, then gently press the rolled flower down onto the glue. Be careful not to burn yourself!

After a few seconds, once the glue is dry, lift up your finger, and you have a spiral paper flower!

Stick some floral wire in through the center of the flowers to make “stems” and stick them in a vase!

I used to make these with my friends in class… yours look even prettier than those though. This is perfect for a party when you don’t want to spend a fortune on fresh or artificial! I think they would even be neat at a wedding!
