How To Make A St. Patrick’s Day Shirt With A Cricut Maker

Here is my This Is My Lucky Shirt design in Cricut Design Space that I used to make this cute St. Patrick’s Day shirt. It’s free with Cricut Access!

  • Time spent doing stuff: 10 minutes
  • Time spent waiting around: 5 minutes
  • Total project time: 15 minutes

Tools & Equipment

Materials

  • foil iron on (I used Emerald Green and Light Gold)
  • a plain t-shirt

Instructions

(You can find a printable version of this tutorial at the bottom of this post.)

Start by opening the This Is My Lucky Shirt design in Cricut Design Space. Click the green Make It button to cut out the design as-is. (The graphic is about 11″ wide and 9″ tall if you don’t resize it.)

If you want to modify the design or resize it, click the Customize button to open the design within the Design Space editor. Then you can select any parts of the design and change the text or resize the elements.

When cutting heat transfer vinyl you always need to mirror your design before cutting. On the Prepare Mats screen, make sure you toggle the “Mirror” switch on for both mats.

Then set your material to Foil Iron On and make sure the fine-point blade is loaded in your machine.

Load the iron on vinyl onto your mat with the pretty side down, then load the mat into your machine and press the flashing Go button.

TIP: When I’m using vinyl from a roll, I usually just pull out a foot to stick down onto the mat and leave the rest of the roll attached, but hanging off the end of the mat. You have to be careful your roll of vinyl isn’t pushed off the table as the mat moves in and out of the machine, but this way you can cut right next to the Cricut cut lines to remove your project from the roll and minimize wasted vinyl.

Once both mats are cut, carefully weed away the background vinyl, including any spots in the center of letters.

Turn your EasyPress on and heat it up to 315 degrees. Put your blank shirt on the EasyPress mat, and once the EasyPress is pre-heated, press the blank shirt for about 5 seconds just to warm up the surface.

Position your iron on vinyl design on the shirt then press with the EasyPress for 30 seconds. If the design is larger than your EasyPress (like mine is below) just move the EasyPress to another area and press for another 30 seconds until the whole design has been pressed.

Flip your shirt over and press again with the EasyPress for 15 seconds on the back. Once the whole design has been pressed a second time, gently peel off the plastic backing while it’s still warm, and you’re done with your St. Patrick’s Day shirt!

Disclosure: I received compensation from Cricut in exchange for my participation in this campaign, and my honest discussion of their products. But the Cricut Maker and, really, all Cricut products are seriously amazing and all opinions in this post are 100% my own. I would never write a post about something I didn’t think was useful or interesting for you guys, and Practically Functional will only publish sponsored posts for companies or products I love and believe in! 🙂

Care:
Turn inside out before washing and wash with cool water on a delicate cycle. Tumble dry low or lay flat to dry.
